Studies show most people use only 5 apps on their smartphones

There are millions (yes, millions) of apps available for iOS, Android, BlackBerry, Windows phone, according to this smartphone study. Yet the same study found that smartphone users spend about 80 percent of their time on just five apps. It will come as no surprise that one of those apps is Facebook.

The other most common apps, which we all know from stats about user counts, include WhatsApp and Snapchat. Messaging is immediate and gratifying, but apps that provide less obvious utility are being largely ignored.

In a recent essay, Sar Haribhakti explained in great detail why people are straying from apps and drifting into chatbot territory. He does an excellent job of explaining why there is a danger that people will end up using only five chatbots, as well. And he challenges the industry to make bots so vital to our daily lives that we will use dozens of them on a routine basis.
