It means the Galaxy SIII has broken the 10 million barrier in less than half the time it took its predecessor, the Galaxy SII, which is the bestselling Android handset so far.
Shin Jong-kyun, the president of Samsung’s mobile division, revealed the figures on Sunday, according to the Korean news agency Yonhap.
The Galaxy SIII, introduced on May 30, was Samsung’s most anticipated smartphone to date, attracting three million pre-orders.
It has cemented the Korean giant’s status as Apple’s main rival and Galaxy as the only smartphone brand with a profile capable of challenging the iPhone. Apple’s current model, the iPhone 4S, sold four million units on its first weekend on sale last year.
Samsung’s flagship smartphone has several technological advantages over the iPhone 4S, including a quad-core processor, NFC "tap to pay" capability and a 4.8-inch screen.
